We build a 6x4m Greenhouse (Cold-room) in the Nuy-Valley near Robertson and Worcester to feed about 500 Meat-Master Sheep in the Klein Karoo where water and natural feeding is scares.
According to Hydroponic Fodder (Bali) specialists, this feeding project of growing plants without soil dates back to the 1930's.The greenhouse we build on the farm only provides moisture and nutrients to the growing plants. We have used refurbished refrigeration equipment to cut the cost on building the Hydroponic Fodder (Bali) room.
According to this Nuy-Valley Farmer its take only three days to grow the seeds, having fresh fodder to feed his Meat-Master sheep in the dry Karoo. He said that in Australia its been a great feeding for live stock like sheep, goats and other farm animals.
Luckily for this Nuy-Valley farmer, hydroponics greenhouse growing is a year-round system, producing a consistent quantity and quality fodder in all seasons, regardless of outside weather.
With Robertson/Worcester(South Africa) on their doorstep the farmer will plant Fodder (Bali) Seed in the field and harvest it for dry feeding while mixing the dried harvest with the fresh Hydroponic Fodder.
